NEW DELHI: Xiaomi may soon have a solution for the ‘biggest problem’ with its phones in India One of the biggest criticism Xiaomi faces in India is that their phones have ‘ads’ in them. According to an Android Authority, Xiaomi is set to solve this problem for good. The Android Authority report states that the Chinese smartphone maker is testing a toggle that will help users to disable ads. These ads come in system apps of Xiaomi phones which are in its MIUI.
The report suggests that users will be able to turn off ads from apps like Calendar, Download Manager and even from Xiaomi’s system installer. A Xiaomi representative has confirmed the same to Android Authority. The report quotes a Xiaomi representative as saying, “[Xiaomi] can confirm that [the ad switch] is being tested. MIUI in China will be rolling out an update with an option to switch off display ads with MIUI 9.8.29. This will affect system apps (such as Calendar, installer, Download manager, etc.).”Read more ↓
However, the feature is still being tested for the MIUI China build only and there is no specific timeline for it mentioned. This was something that was reiterated by the Xiaomi representative who told Android Authority, “As for a rollout timeline, I’m afraid there isn’t any that I can share at this point.”
The report also says that a Xiaomi product director took to Weibo to explain in detail why the company is finally making this move. “Three months ago, we started a comprehensive rectification of system advertising, doing a lot of work, and the experience has been greatly improved to this day,” the representative wrote on Weibo. He further said that, “But we also heard that users did not want to see any advertisements in the system tools such as desktop, calendar, weather, etc. After repeated thoughts, we provided this ultimate solution.”
As per the company executive on Weibo, “If one thing makes the user very uncomfortable, we will definitely choose to maintain the user experience. So if the advertisement still causes a lot of trouble after you reduce the burden, then turn it off.”
