Twitter announces live video broadcast feature for iOS, Android
Microblogging network Twitter has announced a new live video broadcast feature. Powered by Periscope, the feature is available in Twitter’s iOS and Android apps and allows users to share live videos directly with their followers.
Keeping in mind the importance of sharing what’s happening around the world and considering the fact that Twitter is arguably the most popular way of keeping tabs on what’s trending across the globe, the live video broadcast feature is likely to get quite popular.
Twitter’s new feature works in a similar way as Facebook’s live streaming functionality. Audience tuned in to the live video feed on Twitter can interact with the broadcaster by liking, commenting, sharing and retweeting the live broadcast.
To go live, all you have to is compose a tweet and tap the ‘Live’ option. This will take you to a pre-broadcast screen where you can configure necessary settings like shot framing. Once you’re ready, simply tap the ‘Go Live’ button to start broadcast. Apart from Twitter users, Periscope users will be able to watch the live video you have tweeted and participate in the discussion as well.
Kayvon Beykpour, CEO of Periscope commented about the feature, “We started Periscope because we wanted to give people the superpower to share live video with an audience. Bringing this capability directly into the Twitter app is an important step because it brings that superpower to the hundreds of millions of people who use Twitter. Twitter’s already the place where people go to see what’s happening. With this update, anyone can now broadcast what’s happening live.”Read more ↓
The update will be rolling out soon to Twitter’s iOS and Android apps.
