NEW DELHI: Delhi-based Mobile Standards Alliance India or MSAI has launched an app that adds panic button almost instantly on all Android smartphones. This comes after the government has made it mandatory for all smartphone makers to install a panic button in handsets sold in India from 2017 onwards.

Called I Feel Safe app, it is available for all Android mobile phones The app requires users to press the power button of any Android phones 5 times repeatedly in a row to activate it. It can work even when the phone is locked.

Once activated, the app will quickly send the distress message with the coordinates of location via SMS to your select contacts and will also make an alert call to the police.

Going forward, it will also start giving the map coordinates every one minute in explicit longitude and latitude coordinates which in turn can map out the route to give an accurate road map of the location of the smartphone user. It will keep on sending alerts till it is turned off by the user.
