Samsung working on Z2 Tizen smartphone

NEW DELHI: Samsung is reportedly planning to launch another smartphone powered by its own Tizen operating system this year. As per a report by a Korean website, the smartphone is dubbed Samsung Z2 and bears the model number SM-Z200F. It is expected to feature a 4-inch display and 4G capability. The report further states that the device will offer at least 1GB of RAM.

Samsung seems to be restricting its Tizen smartphones/OS to the budget range only. The rumoured Tizen smartphone was also recently leaked online in a video, running Unity game engine. The company had launched its first Tizen smartphone – Z1 last year in January at a price of Rs 5,700.

The Z1 offers a 4-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) display. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 768MB RAM, along with 4GB of internal storage. The phone also supports microSD cards of up to 64GB in size. It runs Tizen 2.3 OS.

Samsung Z1 sports a 3.1MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera. It has a 1,500mAh battery with a claimed talk time of 8 hours. The Z1 supports 3G, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi and GPS as connectivity options.
Despite running Tizen OS, the phone is capable of running Android apps and also offers an ‘Ultra Power Saving Mode’ for extended use. The phone features SOS alerts through which users can send out a ‘Help’ message to their primary contacts. This can help in tracking the users’ location to provide the necessary assistance. The feature works by pressing the power button four times.
