Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Gear VR announced: Here are the top features
Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy Note 7, and new Gear VR headset at its Unpacked 2016 event in New York. The Galaxy Note 7 and Gear VR build on the success story of Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is more in line with Galaxy S7 edge this time than Galaxy Note 5 launched late last year. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features the crisp and vivid Super AMOLED display found on all flagship devices with Quad HD resolution. The display is 5.7-inch diagonally, but since the edges are curved, Samsung claims it to be less wide than the earlier Note 5 smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s single most important addition is the new Iris Scanner, which is similar to the one found on Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The South-Korean firm has become the first Android OEM to step up with a new way of accessing the device. Samsung claims the new Iris scanner is safer than fingerprint sensors found on most Android smartphones. One should expect future flagship Android devices from Samsung to come standard with Iris Scanners.Read more ↓
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with 4GB RAM, but bumps the base storage to 64GB. It is important here to note that a new comer like OnePlus has been offering smartphone with 64GB as standard, while Apple is still stuck at 16GB storage. ‘The more the merrier’ is the mantra with latest Galaxy Note 7 range.
Samsung has also packed Galaxy Note 7 with the same excellent camera found on Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The dual pixel 12MP rear camera replaces the 16MP one on previous Galaxy Note 5. There is a 5MP front camera, which is good enough for selfie in any challenging condition. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is also the first Samsung device to feature an USB-C port charging and ditches the micro-USB port. The S7, S7 edge series does not come with Type-C.
Samsung Note 7 also supports wireless charging with Qi standard. Samsung has also announced the updated Gear VR with wider 110 degree field of view and USB-C port for compatibility with Note 7. The content and experience stays the same.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will go on sale on August 19 and the preorders start tomorrow. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is likely to launch in India on August 11. Samsung has not revealed the price but expect slightly premium pricing over Galaxy S7 edge.
