Reliance Jio may launch ‘Apple MacBook- like’ 4G laptop: Report
NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio seems to be eyeing the next frontier beyond smartphones — laptops. The Reliance Iundustries Ltd-owned company is reportedly working on a laptop with a dedicated 4G SIM. According to a report in PhoneRadar, the company is working on a Jio-powered laptop. The laptop is said to be similar to Apple’s 13.3-inch MacBook Air in design.
As for the specifications, Jio’s is speculated to come with a 13.3-inch Full HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Along with 4G support, it will also come with an HD camera for video calling. The report further suggests that the laptop will come equipped with a chiclet keyboard. It will feature a magnesium alloy body and not have a cooling fan. Measuring 12.2mm in thickness, the laptop is said to weigh 1.2 kilogram.
The report also claims that the Jio laptop will be powered by a quad-core Intel Premium processor along with 4GB of RAM. It is said to come with 128GB SSD storage and 64GB eMMC storage. On connectivity front, it may offer 4G, LTE, Bluetooth, HDMI port, 2 USB ports and a microSD card slot.
The company is said to be in talks with Chineses contract manufacturer Foxconn for the laptops.
Recently, Reliance Jio extended the deadline of its Prime membership to April 15. Along with this, the company has also waived monthly charges for the next three months under its ‘Summer Surprise’ offer.
To avail ‘ Summer Surprise ‘ offer, users need to enroll for Reliance Jio’s Prime membership plan by paying membership fee of Rs 99 along with first purchase of the telco’s Rs 303 or plans of higher amount.
“Every Jio Prime member, when they make their first paid recharge prior to April 15 using Jio’s Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan) will get services for the initial 3 months on a complimentary basis,” the company said in a statement.
