Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 (2018) get Android 8.0 Oreo update
HMD Global announced the Nokia 6 (2018) smartphone earlier this month and the device is available in the Chinese market. While this smartphone brought in a few improvements in comparison to the previous generation model, it does not come with Android 8.0 Oreo, the latest iteration of the OS that has been around for a few months. In fact, the original Nokia 6 launched last year has received the Android 8.0 Oreo update.
Now, it looks like HMD Global is seeding the Oreo update to the two latest smartphones those have been launched. We are talking about the Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 (2018). Notably, the Android 8.0 Oreo update to these smartphones is being rolled out in China as these devices are exclusive to the Chinese market for now. The rollout of the Oreo update was confirmed by HMD on the micro-blogging site Weibo.Read more ↓
Given that these smartphones are yet to be released in the global market, there are speculations that the same will happen at the MWC 2018 tech show next month. This is the same pattern followed by HMD back in 2017 as the company unveiled the Nokia 6 in China earlier in January 2017 and launched the device globally along with the other phones such as Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 3310 (2017).
Nokia 6 (2018) Oreo update after first boot
The Android Oreo update for the Nokia 6 (2018) is not quite surprising as we have already seen a report tipping that the smartphone received the update right after booting it for the first time. Now, it has been officially confirmed by HMD Global. It also received the Google Play Store support along with the update.
Nokia 7 India release
When it comes to the Nokia 7, the smartphone is a mid-range device that was unveiled in October 2017. The device was unveiled with Android 7.0 Nougat and now it has received the Android 8.0 Oreo update. We have already come across reports that the Nokia 7 will be released in India sometime in January but we are yet to get an official confirmation from the company regarding the same. But this contradicts with the MWC 2018 launch that is making rounds in speculations.
HMD has been consistent with updates
HMD is one of the companies when it comes to rolling out timely software updates to its devices. The company updated the Nokia 8 flagship smartphone with Android 8.0 Oreo a few months back. Also, the company is right now testing the Oreo update on the mid-range devices such as Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. On the whole, HMD has been doing a great job on this front given that it has a small product portfolio. We can expect the company to keep up with its good job with the rest of the devices and the upcoming ones as well.
