Justdial data breach affects more than 10 crore users
New Delhi: In yet another case of data breach, more than 10 crore users of local search service Justdial in India have been potentially affected by the data leaks, including their names, email ids, mobile number, gender, date of birth and so on were reportedly made public.
It is worth noting that fintech companies such as EarlySalary, Paytm, travel firm Ixigo, foodtech fitms like FreshMenu and Zomato have also faced similar data leaks in the past.Read more ↓
According to a report in the Economic Times, Rajshekhar Rajaharia, who first exposed the breach, said that 70 per cent of the data was of users who called Justdial’s customer care number “88888 88888”.
“Even if one would not have used their app or website, if you ever called their customer service, your data may have been leaked,” the daily quoted him as saying. He also highlighted the leaked happened through an older version of Justdial’s website which was unattended since mid-2015.
Rajaharia further mentioned that four application programme interfaces (APIs) had remained exposed over these years. “The company reached out to me today, but has been unable to fix the issue completely as the data is still accessible,” he told the daily.
However, the latest version of the Mumbai-based local search engine’s website, which was revamped a few months ago, remained protected from the breach.
The truth that cannot be disregarded that the latest hack is a huge setback for the search engine in particular during a tumultuous year of major online security problems in general. Justdial is an online directory for services and also provides services such as bill payments and recharges, grocery and food delivery, along with handling bookings for restaurants, cabs and movie tickets.
As of 11.35 am, Justdial shares traded 3.63 per cent lower at Rs 577.75 apiece as compared with its previous closing price of Rs 599.75.
