E–commerce marketplace Flipkart’s Big Shopping Days Sale has been creating a buzz around the products for its December 18 sale. However it didn’t go down well with OnePlus and OnePlus users with the marketplace displaying OnePlus 3 at a discounted price on its promotions.

Chinese brand OnePlus which sells in India exclusively on the Amazon India marketplace flagged the issue with Flipkart. The OnePlus 3 model which costs Rs 27,999 was discounted by almost Rs 8,000 on the Flipkart marketplace. The device maker has launched its new device, OnePlus 3T on the Amazon India platform.

In an earlier interview given to ET, OnePlus founder Pete Lau had indicated that it will continue to work with Amazon India as the only online channel and might look at offline stores and dedicate company website. “We will never disappoint our customers by discounting our devices,” said Lau during the interview.

In an official statement,OnePlus India warned users against buying it’s product from other marketplaces. “OnePlus is focused on creating premium flagship smartphones. We have an exclusive partnership with Amazon in India. We advice customers to purchase OnePlus products only through official channels as we cannot guarantee the authenticity of the products sold elsewhere.”

Flipkart defended its position by issuing a statement indicating that as a marketplace, it has multiple third party sellers. “Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. All our sellers are mandated to adhere to stringent guidelines. The prices and discounts for all our sales are decided by the participating sellers and brands,” said the Flipkart spokesperson in a response given to ET. The device is being sold by OmniTech Retail on the Flipkart website.

When contacted, Amazon India said that it continued to be the exclusive ochannel for sale of OnePlus devices in India from 2014 through 2017.

“We are excited to be the partner of choice for OnePlus through 2017 as well,” said an Amazon India spokesperson.

Exclusive tie-ups by brands provide online marketplaces with revenue from sales by cutting out traditional distributors as well as advertising and marketing revenues.
