New Delhi, June 19: The Narendra Modi government is now planning to link all land records with the Aadhaar number under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program (DILRMP). It is considered as a valuable step towards exposing benami properties and making land records transparent, sources said.
Linking of properties with Aadhaar will make it easier for the authorities to identify the owner of the property. Even basic investigation will help the authorities find out whether owner is a benami or real owner of the property, the India Today reported.
Earlier, the government issued a directive to link all bank accounts with the Aadhaar.
The letter read, “The Union of India by an Act of Parliament, is considering linking Aadhaar numbers with the ownership of said properties. The properties which are not linked shall be considered for appropriate action under the Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Amended Act, 2016.”
