Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe gets Android 8.0 Oreo update

Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe has started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update. This update is being rolled out as a FOTA update. Back in the last week, Asus Malaysia confirmed the rollout of the Android 8.0 Oreo update and stated that all the ZenFone 3 models will get it including ZenFone 3 Laser, ZenFone 3 Zoom, and the ZenFone 3 Deluxe.

According to a thread in Asus Zentalk, the latest one to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update is ZenFone 3 Deluxe and it is the first of the three devices to get the update. Users of the smartphone can expect to get the update within a week’s time. The update is said to be hitting the smartphone with the model number ZS550KL featuring a 5.5-inch display and the variant with the model number ZS550KL featuring a larger 5.7-inch display.

The Android 8.0 Oreo update for the ZenFone 3 Deluxe will bring features such as Autofill, Background limits, Smart text selection, and Picture-in-Picture mode among others. The new update will have support for Android Instant App support, easier installation for unknown apps, adaptive icons and a fully redesigned emoji set. The update has the version number 80.20.96.89.

If you own an Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe, you can head on to Settings → About Phone to check for the Android 8.0 Oreo update manually. We can expect the update to be rolled out to all the users in phases so you can wait for it as well.

During the announcement of the update, Asus has revealed the changelog of the Android Oreo update showcasing the major improvements and changes. As per the changelog, the update will remove third-party apps such as TripAdvisor, Puffin Browser, and Kindle. It will remove the features such as Mini Movie, PhotoCollage, Quick Memo, and Do It Later. Also, the FM Radio function will be moved to quick settings. After the receiving the update, you can use the swipe up gesture to enter the ‘All Apps’ menu.

To refresh, the Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe was unveiled in 2016 with Android Marshmallow and received the Android Nougat update in March 2017.
