4G variant of the Nokia 3310 will launch in 2018
The Nokia 3310 that HMD Global revived last year is set to keep up with changing times. The dependable feature phone got a facelift with a new display, a camera and punchy new colours. Later, a 3G version of the phone was launched and now, HMD is coming back with a new variant of the Nokia 3310 (review), this time with 4G.
Per a report by Nokiamob, the device is passing through TENAA, the Chinese regulatory body for telecom devices. Based on the report, the design will remain unchanged.Read more ↓
However, there could be a change in the operating system. The new Nokia 3310 will run on YunOS instead of the previous Feature OS and s30+ which powered the original 2G variant and 3G variant respectively. YunOS is capable of running a few apps that are there on Android as it’s based on AOSP, the open source Android version.
Perhaps, the upcoming Nokia 3310 will be able to run a stripped down version of WhatsApp and Facebook. Considering it can support a 4G connection, it seems highly likely.
While the Nokia 3310 was certainly not the most popular phone this year, it did receive a lot of love when it launched in February. People picked the Nokia 3310 up for the nostalgia factor and also to use as a backup device. The 1200mAh battery on the Nokia 3310 gives a talk time of 22 hours currently. It remains to be seen whether a 4G connection will affect the battery life.
